Everything you need to know about CandleSafe

CandleSafe is a Swiss SaaS platform that automatically generates Safety Data Sheets (SDS) compliant with REACH regulation and CLP labels from your fragrance suppliers' SDS. In just a few clicks, you get documents compliant with European and Swiss standards — without prior chemical expertise.
CandleSafe is designed for artisans and small businesses who manufacture candles, wax melts, room sprays, reed diffusers, aqueous diffusers (ultrasonic / electric), textile sprays and scented vacuum powders — and who must provide compliant SDS and labels to sell their products in Switzerland and the EU.
A Safety Data Sheet (SDS) is a regulatory document with 16 sections that describes the hazards of a chemical product, safety measures and emergency procedures. It is mandatory in the EU and Switzerland for all mixtures classified as hazardous according to CLP regulation. CandleSafe generates it for your finished mixture (candle, spray, etc.) from your fragrance suppliers' SDS.
The CLP label is the hazard label placed directly on the finished product. It contains GHS pictograms (red diamonds), hazard statements (H) and precautionary statements (P) in accordance with CLP Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008. CandleSafe automatically calculates the classification and generates the label in your chosen language.
CandleSafe supports 8 languages: French, English, German, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Polish and Dutch. Your subscription includes 1 base language. Additional languages are available as paid options — you can add as many as needed from your dashboard.
The SDS Checker is a document audit tool integrated into CandleSafe. It analyzes your SDS (PDF or DOCX) and verifies their compliance on 16 REACH/CLP points: presence of mandatory sections, classification consistency, UFI mentions, etc. It produces a detailed report by scenario (candle, spray, diffuser…). The Checker has an independent usage quota, defined according to the subscription plan subscribed.
The Guide & Training module offers regulatory guides directly in CandleSafe: understanding H317/H315 classification, CMR substances, GHS pictograms, etc. The guides are available in the 8 platform languages.
In 4 simple steps:
1. Upload — Upload the PDF SDS from your fragrance supplier
2. Configuration — Choose the scenario (candle, spray, diffuser...), dilution rate and language
3. Verification — Check the automatically detected substances and correct if necessary
4. Download — Download your compliant SDS in PDF, ready to be transmitted

CandleSafe accepts SDS in PDF format (max 10 MB). Our universal parser automatically detects the format, language and substances, regardless of the supplier. SDS in French, English, German, and other languages are all supported. For non-standard formats or scanned SDS, backup AI processing is automatically activated.
CandleSafe covers 9 product types:
• Scented candle (natural wax, paraffin, blend)
• Wax melt
• Reed diffuser
• Aqueous diffuser (ultrasonic / electric)
• Alcoholic room spray
• Aqueous room spray
• Textile spray (solvent, alcoholic or aqueous)
• Vacuum-cleanable scented powder
• Multi-fragrance blend (2 to 4 fragrances combined with individual dosing)
CLP classification is automatically recalculated for each scenario.

The SDS Translator is a tool independent of manufacturing scenarios. It takes an existing supplier SDS (PDF) and translates it while reformatting it to the standard CandleSafe format: REACH 16-section structure, standardized terminology, compliant layout. This tool is useful when you have a supplier SDS in a foreign language or in a non-standard format, and you want to obtain a clean and readable version in the language of your choice.
Yes. At the verification step, you can modify, add or remove substances. A confidence score is displayed for each detected substance. You can search for substances by name or CAS number, and access the official EU database (CLP Annex VI — 3,648 imported substances).
The UFI (Unique Formula Identifier) is an alphanumeric code of 16 characters (format XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX) that uniquely identifies the composition of your mixture. It is mandatory on the label and SDS of classified hazardous mixtures marketed in the EU since January 2025, and must be declared on ECHA's PCN portal.
The UFI code is generated for free on ECHA's official website: ufi.echa.europa.eu. You must then declare your mixture on the PCN portal. CandleSafe provides you with direct links and guides you through this process from your dashboard.
Yes. Thanks to the post-generation UFI functionality, you can add or modify the UFI code on an already generated document (SDS or CLP label) without consuming quota. The PDF is regenerated with the integrated UFI and the version is automatically incremented (e.g.: v1.0 → v1.1). If you have an SDS and a CLP label for the same product, CandleSafe offers to update both in a single action.

No, no subscription renews automatically. At expiration, access to paid features expires. You receive a reminder email before the end of your period to allow you to renew if you wish. Continuity of access is solely your initiative.
If you don't renew, your access to paid features expires on the end date. You retain read-only access to your existing documents. Your files remain accessible during the retention period defined in the Terms of Use, with email warnings before any deletion.
Your documents are kept indefinitely as long as your subscription is active. If your subscription expires, a 60-day retention period starts from the expiration date. You receive a warning email at D+46 (14 days before deletion) and a final reminder at D+57 (3 days before). If you renew your subscription before D+60, your documents are saved. After D+60, PDF files are permanently deleted but metadata (name, date, type) remains visible in your history.
CLP classification & substances 3
The CLP label is mandatory as soon as your finished product is classified as hazardous according to CLP Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008. CandleSafe automatically performs the classification when generating the SDS. If your product is classified as hazardous, you can generate the label with one click from your dashboard.
CandleSafe generates a complete PDF document containing all mandatory CLP elements. This document includes a guide to regulatory formats (minimum font sizes according to container surface) to help you correctly apply the statements on your final label.
GHS pictograms, the signal word (Danger or Warning), H statements and P statements are determined automatically from the CLP classification calculated for your mixture. CandleSafe also integrates EUH statements (including EUH208 for contact allergens) and the UFI code if you have entered one — all in the language of your choice.
